World protest in the Abkhazia region, proclaimed independent from Georgia, refused to vacate the parliament building in the suburbs after the invasion the previous day. The president of the region set a condition for their withdrawal.
"We will not vacate the building until our demand is met," one of the protesters stated.
The parliament was occupied by protesters after they stormed it and demanded the president's resignation. In response, the regional leadership declared a state of emergency and closed the borders.
