Georgia Withdraws from Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly

Georgia has withdrawn from the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly following calls for new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners amidst ongoing political turmoil.

Georgia announced its participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe after the call for the organization to hold new parliamentary elections in the country. It was also necessary to free political prisoners and return the Georgian government to the right path. "Today we are confirming our activity in the Parliamentary Assembly," stated the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani. The assembly demanded from Tbilisi to hold new democratic parliamentary elections under conditions of political crisis, which arose after the conducted contentious elections in October of last year, in which the ruling party "Georgian Dream" won with its pro-Russian course.
